The Tegiwa Civic Cup

The Tegiwa Civic Cup is the UK’s most well patronised Honda race series, sporting regular grids of between 30 and 40 cars and is well known for displaying some of the most exciting and close racing of any within UK clubman motorsport. The Civic Cup championship was originally developed by Shaun Woods and Nick Chatburn in 2011, and was intended to showcase the Honda Civic type R in its many and various guises- from the CRX of the late 80s, all the way through to the FN2 which was current in production until late 2012. Over the next 4 years the Championship grew to become one of the most well followed and most talked about championships on the UK.

In late 2015, Steve Laidlaw, a previous competitor in the Class B division, took over from Nick as joint principal of the Civic Cup and the championship is now undergoing a further period of growth, with more competitors registered this year than any previous, one of the best looking clubman grids in the country, and many more new cars being built by future competitors currently. This is due in no small part to the winning formula of high performance and low ingoing cost (a competitive Civic Cup car can be built for less than £8000, yet will offer lap times which would embarrass much higher cost race cars).

With all this, and much more planned for 2016, the future is looking big for the Tegiwa Civic Cup.

The Honda Civic type R, and more specifically the B16/ K20 ‘vtec’ engines have become legendary in their status as both a highly proficiency fast road power plant, and even more so a competent and potent race car powerplant- giving unrivalled performance per pound and yet staunch reliability. However, much of the performance comes in very late in the rev range- some versions revving to over 9400rpm on track- so high quality, reliable lubricants and fluids are essential. Motul, being the official lubricants and fluid supplier of the Tegiwa Civic Cup, have absolutely met the challenge head on, giving initial advice on which of their products would best suit their application, and the feedback from drivers thus far has been incredibly positive.

From all of us at Witham Motorsport we wish all Competitors good luck this weekend (2nd April) at the first round of the Civic Cup at Oulton Park!
