Looking after your treasured classic car

Choosing the right oil for classic vehicles

All vehicles, whether old or new, need oil in their engines and on working parts to help keep them lubricated. The oils help prevent friction, causing wear and tear and rust, all of which can lead to expensive repairs and breakdowns.
There are many factors to be considered when choosing a lubricant for a classic vehicle and these often need assessing on a case by case basis to ensure optimum protection and performance as well as the correct balance of additives sympathetic to that individual vehicle.
For older engines, using incorrect oil can be disastrous as most modern engine oils are not compatible and could cause significant damage.  Using a modern lubricant in a vintage vehicle could lead to break downs, scouring the engine where in extreme cases the resulting debris could potentially block oil ways, ultimately resulting in failure.

A reliable and trustworthy lubricant supplier

The Witham Group has been making classic products since 1921 (although they weren’t classic then!).  As engine technology has developed over the past 100 years, Witham has produced tried and tested classic oils and brake fluids, carefully made to the correct formulations as originally recommended by the vehicle manufacturers.
We blend over five million litres of oil every year and produce a range of blended and straight oils suitable for use in vintage and classic engines, as well as gear oils, anti-freeze, grease and a range of paints and specialist coatings.
Reliable and trustworthy, our lubricants are proven to prevent rust, wear and tear, improve fuel economy and help extend the life of your treasured classic.

Quality counts

Trusted and preferred by many vintage vehicle societies, and individual discerning owners, including family estate owners, all the products in the Classic range carry the highest reputation and reliability, and are made using the highest quality raw materials – carefully made to the correct formulations and viscosities as originally recommended by the vehicle manufacturers.

Going the extra mile for a prominent owners’ club

A prominent Classic Owners Club approached Witham to find a solution to overcome a mechanical problem – oil loss in classic engines.  The vehicle in question would have traditionally required a 20W-50 oil, but several owners were finding that they were losing pressure and suffering excessive oil consumption. Witham therefore successfully developed a bespoke 20W-60 viscosity oil that was more viscous at the top end to try and minimise these issues.
