Creocote and Barn Paint prove popular with customers online

Adding a lick of paint isn’t just for indoors – outdoor paint can add much needed protection to structures and surfaces that weather the elements.   You can also use exterior paint to complement or contrast extensions, storage barns, fencing, sheds and outbuildings, not to mention garden furniture.   Many people across the UK are now spending more time at home and taking the opportunity to do home and garden improvements.
The Witham Group have many years of experience providing quality wood paints and coatings to farms across the UK.   Witham provide a range of wood protection options:

Smarten up farm buildings

Witham’s WOCO Barn Paint is ideal for Farmers who want to protect and revive outbuildings including sheds, barns and garages.

Available in a stylish palette of seven stylish colours, this remarkable paint product is water based, easy to apply and quick drying.   It also offers tough durable protection against water to prevent rotting and mould.  It can be used on a variety of materials including wood, metal, concrete, plastic to protect against outdoor elements, sun damage and fading.
Easy to apply with a brush or roller, the paint is made from acrylic resin which is flexible against the underlying material to resist flaking and blistering and provide long lasting colour protection.  It is also non-toxic and therefore better for the environment and safe to use around people and animals.
Witham Group MD, Nigel R Bottom commented: “We developed this new range in response to the growing demand for a good quality, long lasting paint for external buildings.  Now we’re finding that some of our agricultural customers are not only using our WOCO Paint Barn to protect their farm buildings, but also to update their homes.”

WOCO Barn Paint can be applied straight onto previously painted surfaces such as weathered bitumen, tar, varnish or creosote.  This product does not require a primer and is touch dry within two hours.

Protect fencing and gates

Creosote has been traditionally used as a wood preservative.  However, in 2003, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) changed the law so that creosote was only available to professional users and has been withdrawn from sale for retail customers in the UK.  This is due to its toxicity and potential harmful effects on health.
The Witham Group offers an alternative.  Their approved creosote substitute ‘WOCO Creocote’ is a spirit oil-based, effective treatment for exterior wood. It has been developed as a safer (for the user) alternative to original creosote.  It is still designed to be used to protect wood against rotting fungi and wood destroying insects on external timbers.   It is ideally suited to rough woods on sheds, fences and barns, providing excellent surface water repellency, thus restricting any weather damage.

WOCO Creocote can be used on a variety of exterior woods not only to protect and preserve but also to improve grain definition. The product also exhibits the characteristic odour and colour familiar to traditional creosote users.

Still prefer the good old-fashioned stuff?  Witham do stock original creosote but this can only be purchased by professional users and registered trade account customers. They can supply in a minimum of 25 litre drums or 200 litre barrels.

Woodcare & Joinery coatings

The Witham Group also provide a range of other professional woodcare products:

  • Water Based Universal Preserver. – This is recommended as the first step in the preparation of wood restoration and decorating. A water based quick drying treatment for both wet rot, dry rot, wood boring insects. A very low odour formulation which is ideally suited for enclosed and external use prior to coating with paint, varnish or sealer.
  • Water Based Stain Blocking Primer A highly effective, lead free, water-based stain blocker which is designed for both interior and exterior woodwork. Easy to apply this product is designed to tackle those difficult to coat woods such as oak and cedar. It dries rapidly to form a smooth film which helps towards a top-quality finish. This product can also be used as a first-class base coat for most decorative finishes.
  • Water Based Topcoat This top coat will give a high sheen and protective coating and provides excellent overall weather resistance. It can be used on both interior and exterior woodwork and is based on a unique high-quality acrylic dispersion, which gives an unbeatable finish. This popular and reliable topcoat is ideal for window frames and doors, conservatories, cladding and outbuildings.

Can i use creosote on cedar wood.
is there any thing better to use on cedar against soil regards Esmond

    • Lucy says:

Hi Esmond – you can use creosote on cedar wood. If you wanted to paint cedar with a water based product, you would need to use a stain blocking primer first. Hope this helps.

  2. El says:

Hi, can you paint over creocote? I just painted with it but want a colour now.thamks!

    • Lucy Wilkinson says:

Hi El – yes Creocote can be painted over. Our Woco Barn Paint would be the ideal product, preparation would be as for normal wood. If you would like to speak to one of technical team please call 01522 521192 or email enquiries@withamgroup.co.uk. Thanks
