Creosote and Creocote wood treatment

Creocote is an oil-based, effective treatment for exterior wood developed as a safer, more environmentally friendly alternative to Creosote.  It can be used to protect wood against rotting fungi and wood destroying insects on external timbers.
Traditional creosote is now only available for professional use and has been withdrawn from sale for retail customers in the UK.
Our Creosote substitute ‘Creocote’ is available in a ‘nut brown’ dark shade and is ideally suited to rough woods on sheds, fences and barns, providing excellent surface water repellency and so restricts weather damage.
Creocote
Creocote can be used on a variety of exterior woods not only to protect and preserve but also to improve grain definition. The product also exhibits the characteristic odour familiar to traditional creosote users. Creocote can be applied exactly like its predecessor by either brush or spray, and can be used by the general public as well as the trade. It is available in either 4, 20 or 200 litre containers.
We also stock traditional Creosote but only to professional users, and supplied in a minimum of 25lt or 200lt barrels. (The sale of this effective wood protection is governed by EU environmental and health and safety legislation and can only be sold to trade account customers)

  2. William Brown says:

Can I use crecote on a garden table, and can I varnish over crecote?.

    • Lucy says:

Hi William – we would not recommend using varnish over the top as it is white spirit based and will tend leech the bitumen content out of the creocote. Hope this helps. Thanks, Lucy

  3. Roy Garner says:

Can you use creocote over a creosote fence?

    • Lucy Wilkinson says:

Hi Roy – yes you can use Creocote on a fence that has previously been painted with creosote. We hope this helps.

I am building a small traditional shed and using Radiata pine for the frame above ground covered with corrugated iron. I am thinking of coating all the Radiata frame timber with crecote before placing the iron on. Will this stop termites? the supporting timbers inground will be pressure treated.

    • Lucy Wilkinson says:

Hi Alan – thanks for your query. Creocote is a wood treatment and does not contain any pesticides or fungicides. We would recommend treating the wood with a universal wood preserver such as Bird Brand Superior Wood Preserver and Bird Brand Woodworm Killer – which is a highly effective preventative and curative preserver for the eradication of wood-boring beetles and termites. (We stock both products available in 5ltr tins for £22.10 + VAT)
